WB2: Arts and Crafts wastebasket: Quarter sawn oak

Based on an amalgam of designs by Gustav Stickley and Charles Limbert (both American Arts and Crafts designers from the early 20th century), this waste basket is made in quarter sawn English oak (Quercus robur) throughout.

Finished in shellac and beeswax. Overall size: width (top) 23 cm, height 39 cm.

This piece has a popular blonde finish that often works well in a contemporary setting.

Quarter sawn oak is more expensive than through and through sawn boards, but is more stable and shows the medullary rays that are characteristic of it. Quarter sawn oak has always been popular for quality furniture, panelling, etc., particularly for Arts and Crafts pieces.
